He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Growing up in Parrsboro, he worked at a variety of jobs including in the family business, McDade Lumber. It was during this time that he met and married Eudora. They raised their family in Lower Sackville and Gerald worked in the automotive field and in later years, for Canada Post. He worked part-time in the pari-mutuels at Sackville Downs Raceway and eventually owned racehorses himself. In retirement, he and Eudora moved to Tidal Bore Road in Central Onslow where Gerald loved to work in his yard and look after his horses. A Graveside Service will be held at a later date in Lower Onslow Clarke Cemetery.

    McDADE, Eudora Elizabeth

Age 89 of Central Onslow, passed away on April 4, 2020 in East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in Great Village on March 27, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Margaret Eva (Rushton) Peppard. In her early teens, her family moved to Parrsboro and it was there that she met and eventually married her husband, Gerald. Along with her husband and their daughter, they moved to Lower Sackville in 1956. Soon after her second daughter was born, she began a 30-year career at Sackville Downs Raceway. She started in the track canteen and later moved to be the Program Director then Race Classifier and eventually the Director of Racing. Eudora and Gerald also owned and raced many racehorses. When Sackville Downs closed in 1986, they moved to Central Onslow where she worked at the Truro Raceway for a brief time before retiring. In retirement, they built a barn in their backyard where they cared for their horses. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and was an avid reader. Both Eudora and Gerald loved living on Tidal Bore Road and she called the neighbours \"the other family\". She also loved animals, in particular cats, and always had one or two in her life. A special thanks to the Tidal Bore neighbours for their endless support of Eudora and Gerald over the last 33 years.
