    Notes:

    Died:
    Gary Reid Thompson
Of West Petpeswick, NS, May 02, 1945 – August 30, 2023, Dad passed away in the early morning of August 30, 2023, surrounded by the love of his family. He fought hard to have more time, and it would be wrong to say he lost his battle. We are grateful to have had this final summer together, filled with grandkids and warm days at home in West Petpeswick. The youngest of four, Dad was born to the late Pearl (nee Pemberton) and Reid Thompson in St. Croix. He grew up in Hantsport and married his high school sweetheart, Glenda (nee Hancock), twice. Together they raised four children and built a wonderful life on the Eastern Shore. Dad was a skilled carpenter. He remarked at how lucky he was to often work where he could look out and take in the beauty of the ocean. He loved hunting and fishing, and in his retirement, learned to play the upright bass. It was through these pursuits that he made many lifelong friends – spending time with some on the Miramichi, and others playing music. He loved a good game of crib and was an original member of the West Petpeswick snooker club, a Thursday night ritual he enjoyed for over 40 years. Dad was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 161. He will be missed by his neighbours, especially after a storm when he’ll no longer show up with his chainsaw or plow. We made a lot of memories through the years, and many were of time spent at Sunken Lake. After Mom and Dad retired, they traded the cottage for winters in Florida and road trips visiting friends and family in Quebec, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Ontario, and last fall a final trip to British Columbia. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sibling, David Thompson, and brothers-in-law Barry Hancock and Ron MacFarlane. The funeral will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5 at First United Church in Musquodoboit Harbour with a reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Eastern Marine Branch 161 in Gaetz Brook.
